For my mom
Sent to my 82 year old mother to help her get some exercise. She says she uses it and after about 5 minutes she said she is huffing amd puffing so at least it helps get her blood moving!

THIS PRODUCT IS VERY DIFFICULT FOR MY 85 YEAR-OLD MOTHER TO USE BECAUSE THE STIRRUPS ARE NEVER IN POSITION FOR EASY USE. SHE STRUGGLES REACHING DOWN TO HER FEET TO FIT THE STIRRUPS ON. ALSO, THIS CYCLE TRAVELS--IT NEVER STAYS PUT WHEN IN USE.

This Stamina Cycle Is A Blessing - Miracle In A Box
Ok first off, The package came on time and it's well built. I received it 2 days ago. I bought this cycle for my father because he has rheumatoid arthritis and high blood pressure. His legs became numb months ago, causing him to fall a lot and not be able to walk without assistance. It's only been 2 days since he's been using it and the numbness in one of his legs is gone and he is able to walk a lot better and he hasn't fell yet, thank god. He says that he can "already feel a difference". He was not able to walk without dragging his left foot, but now it is already lifting off of the ground. The cycle seems to be improving the circulation and strength in his legs.
He used the cycle for 20 mins. on the first day and 30 mins. on the 2nd. day, which is today. I can see the improvement and it makes me happy. This will also help lower his blood pressure. I created a workout routine for him and I use words a lot to keep him motivated. This is worth the money.
And yes it does give a slight pause when u cycle, but all that does is makes him try harder to push, which gives him more of a workout. I love this thing!and so does he!

Stamina Instride Cycle
I carefully read all review I could find before I invested and based on what I read, I felt I made a good choice. After receiving the cycler, my feelings are reinforced. I knew that it would move while pedaling. I was armed with a shelf-liner with a grip surface which worked well. As far as the pedaling being choppy, at a certain tension and speed it is. I have finally gotten the right combination of speed and tension to keep it from being so. It just took a little work and because I knew about that ahead of time, I was willing to work with it. The product appears to be well made. My grandchildren have certainly given it a few spins and it has held up without problem. That is a true test to me. If they don't destroy it, it's well made. It doesn't fold, but doesn't take up much space and is lightweight to carry from room to room or carry to work if you'd like. I'm pleased with my choice and use it 40 minutes each day. This is not a substitute for regular exercise, but helps to supplement when the weather is bad and I can't get out.
Rating :
AWKWARD
I didn't like it. It's very awkward to use because the pedal straps are hard to slip on right, and if you tighten up the tension control to get a good workout the motion becomes sticky and it doesn't operate smoothly. I found it annoying. There doesn't appear to be any sort of gear mechanism involved so it feels rough and also the base slips easily. Essentially it's a good idea, but it doesn't function well. I found nothing about it that was worth the money. I tossed it aside a few days after getting it and haven't used it in months. Get one of the highly rated mini steppers instead. You'll get a nice space saving workout. I recommend an air piston one.

After a month, total satisfaction
Pretty easy to assemble. Sturdy construction. Smooth "ride." The computer screen is small and hard to read, but once I got past it, all was good. Provides a fine workout, which was the goal.

I love this bike!
Man this bike is fun...well as fun as exercising can be. It rides smooth, it's comfortable for long rides, and it was easy to put together. I've used this bike more this week than I have used any of the equipment I've owned for years! Don't be stupid. Get one!

Awesome Exercise Bike
It could have been packaged better. The LED console had a piece broken off the side, it's still useable, but I didn't pay full price for a exercise bike with a broken console. The bike is very easy to assemble with little mechanical ability and as long as you follow the directions. I was very skeptical to buy this bike due to many other reviews, but those people either have no mechanical sense or don't know how to follow instructions. Some of the complaints in the reviews were burnt rubber smell. I have used it for a total of about 3-4 hours and have had no smell come from the machine. Another complaint was that the seat will not stay locked. After you have the seat in the desired position push down the lever until it is parallel with horizontal bar, all of this is in the instructions. Other complaints were that the resistance isn't what they expected, I'm in very good shape and I exercised for about 10 minutes on the highest resistance and had my heartrate up pretty high in no time. Would recommend this bike to anyone. Very good deal for the money.

I Have Had This Bike For Years and Enjoy It Now More Than Ever For Low-Impact Exercise
So many of my friends have blown-out knees, something I certainly want to avoid by making wiser exercise choices. I am committed to consistent workouts and this is a good exercise option. I have a treadmill, elliptical, weights, you name it. When I get on this bike, it's low-impact exercise, doesn't stress me, and I get a good workout from it.
Recently I discovered bike-o-vision videos (DVDs) where you can travel down roads and highways, either on your exercise bike, your treadmill, elliptical, or any forward-moving machine. I've bought a dozen or so of them and it makes exercising on a machine like this so much fun! You can push yourself or, like me, go at a pace that is comfortable and non-competitive.
I've had this recumbent exercise bike for years now and have had no problems with it. I don't especially like it when a visitor changes the settings, but that's really not a big deal. You just change them back. It takes less than a minute. The recumbent bike works best for me because it exercises the parts of my legs that otherwise don't get exercise.
I recommend this product.

Good bike for a good price
I put this bike together in forty-five minutes, flat. It has the best written how-to manual of any product I have assembled in the recent past. All screws, bolts, washers, etc., are mounted on a card with shrink-wrap along with the tools you need for assembly. Each separate component has a label under it with total number of pieces supplied, so you can see in an instant if you've been shorted. Only the screws for the computerized console are not on the card. They are already in the back of the console and must be removed to mount the console to the bike frame. This is not mentioned in the instructions. There is an issue with an odor that you may perceive as you work at the maximum resistance. Other reviewers have mentioned it as a strong negative. I am not crazy about it, but with the fan going in my work-out room, everything is fine, for me. If you are using a resistance-type bike, something has to damp something else to provide the resistance. With this bike I believe a braking pad, of sorts, rubs harder on the inner flywheel to increase resistance. In the future, it would be a good idea for the manufacturer to try a different material for that pad. I can only hope that the pad contains no asbestos, as some car brake pads have, in the past. I would imagine that asbestos would not be needed as the friction would not produce temperatures similar to car brakes. Then again, it might if you go for the peak resistance over a prolonged period. I may contact the manufacturer to get peace of mind. The smell is of a burning rubber type, so that material is probably being used. Again, it is no big deal, with a fan running. Another design negative: The pedal straps are of a material that is fairly inflexible. When it comes to adjusting them on the pedal nubs, you honestly need a ring-opening pliers to stretch them to fit. Otherwise, you will drive yourself nuts trying to get them to go over the nubs. As far as the exercise value of this bike: The work-outs are well designed, and I can break a good sweat if I dig in, hard. All features on the console make sense, once you get the hang of using them. The pulse monitor is not the greatest, and the manual tells you the same. Use your own chest strap monitor if you are needing more accurate readings. All in all, this is a good bike for a good price.

About Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Achwinn220 Recumbert exercise bike
I read reviews of this bike and decided that among other reviews of bikes, this sounded like the best. I was not disappointed. Assembly was easy and the machine is, like the saying goes, quiet as a mouse. If I was asked if I would recommend this product to someone, it would be a definite yes. Danny O

Came as expected, worked as expected
After lengthy reviews of the other recumbent bikes, I decided to go with the 220. There are two higher models of Schwinn bicycles which I thought had little extra value. There are already predrilled holes for the water bottle in the front making the 240 level model a difference in price a water bottle cage from Walmart. The book cage can easily be installed as well.
The biggest drawback of this bike is that there seems to be only one person allowed to be in the memory. This is frustrating as most households have at least two adults using it.

Great deal for the money
Had this delivered yesterday and put it together last night. Took about 1 hour. Really not that difficult at all-if you follow the directions it will be okay (though the pictures in the instructions could be bigger/clearer). The bike is well made and feels sturdy. It is very quiet and so far (have only used it twice) seems to be a really good deal for the price paid. Definitely would recommend this (as of this short ownership time anyway).

Schwinn Bike
First bike came with a sliced cable. Manafacturer said they would send a new cable and we had to take the bike apart and insert the cable and then put the bike back together again. Fortunately, Amazon agreed to take the bike back and send a new one, while paying for return shipping. While this delayed the entire processs, it was great they took care of this.

Customer Review :
Quiet, compact, and easy to assemble.
I didn't know how terrible I had it until I got this awesome exercise bike.
I just moved to a new apartment which could not fit my huge old exercise bike so I had to purchase a more compact one. Boy, I didn't know how loud my other bike was until I got this one! This is so quiet you can barely hear it. You can even use it early in the morning next to a room of sleeping children. (Which is what I do).
This bike was pretty easy to assemble and it is really easy to drag around and move room to room if you so wish. Just make sure you install the bottom legs correctly. (the part with wheels should go infront by the handlebars.)
This has several different workout programs and you can customize the duration for each and the awesome thing is you can make them as hard or as easy as you want because you can always manually adjust the tension. My old bike definitely could not do this and I paid at least $500 for it. And for those wondering if you'll get enough of a workout, trust me, you will. I regularly bike outdoors uphill and this exercise bike definitely gives me a workout.
Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. I highly recommend to anyone looking to purchase. Don't be fooled by the price. This time, you get MORE than what you pay for.

A good bike for the price
I bought this bike last summer because I wanted a way to get exercise and lose some weight. So far, this bike has let me do both. I chose this bike based on other reviews and price. I know many people have exercise equipment sitting around their homes unused because their good intentions didn't have any staying power. Since I was unsure how seriously I was going to take my exercise program, I didn't want to sink a lot of money into a product that sat around unused. However, I didn't want to buy a piece of junk either. After reading reviews, this bike seemed a good compromise between price and quality. I have not been disappointed.
The bike was pretty easy to put together - I believe it took me about 45 minutes. The bike has several different resistance levels and exercise programs. Honestly, I just use one program, so the variety is wasted on me. The computer console measures speed, time, distance (in miles), and calories burned (there are a couple of other units of measure, but I don't worry about them.) I can set any of these factors to determine my exercise program. For example, I can set it for me to ride 30 minutes or to tell me when I burn off 500 calories. The programs change the intensity of the ride to make it harder and easier.
My main complaint is that occasionally on the hardest setting the pedal resistance feels like it is slipping. It also doesn't have a drink holder although it seems to indicate that it does.

Solid performer at affordable price
It's been a month now since i've been using this product so I decided to review it. The bike was easy to assemble and I had it ready to go in about 20 minutes. On the downside the packing tape was sticked to the mechanism housing and upon removal the silver housing paint came off in few places but it's not something that i'm too concerned about. Overall the bike is nice, doesn't take too much space and is easy to ride with a lot of programs to chose from. The menu is somewhat difficult as others mentioned but after couple of times you'll be able to figure it out. Basicall you need to press menu once to pick with +/- buttons between programs then press the menu again to go into program and adjust the distance or time. Not really intuitive but can be done.
Now to the problems: as others mentioned, the seat is really uncomfortable. I do have regular outdoor mountain bike and I do ride it frequently. It doesn't have special comfortable seat, it's just your standard mountain bike narrow seat with minimal padding but that seat is much more comfortable than what the Schwinn stationary bike has. Schwinn's seat does feel OK when you're riding it and does not suggest what you will encounter once you get off the bike. I personally experience a rather sharp pain in my backbone rather than in the usual crotch place. I don't know if this is due to the fact that the rear portion of the seat is really wide or what but it is uncomfortable to get off the bike.
Second problem is that the bike has been squeacking from teh day one when you pedal. Now after a month it has diminished but when I let off the handle bars to have a drink of water or just to change the position for a while it starts squeaking again. When it doesn't squeak the bike is really quiet.
Third, the display is really hard to read without a solid source of light. If you're riding after dusk you need to have source of light directly above the bike to be able to read display. This is a serious design flaw and i'm really disappointed in Schwinn for not thinking about this.
Lastly, it would be really good to have programmable weight as i'm suspecting that the calorie counter is not accurate. I'm an advanced biker but doubt that 45min of biking with hearth rate around 140 allows me to burn about 900 calories per bike's display.
Overall, I'm satisfied with this product as it absolutely covers my needs for stationary excercise but I'm giving it 4 stars as there are obvious imperfections that could be fixed. That said, I would not hesitate to buy it again or recommend it to a friend with simmilar fitnes needs and no desire for too many bells and whistles.
Rating :
Great value for the money
This bike with six programs with varying resistance is a great value for the money. Bikes can cost 6 times as much as this one. It's easy to move around and takes up little space. Lest I forget, it is very easy to assemble. I think it took me 30 minutes and I took my time to do it.
Rating :
Good value for the money now that I've fixed it. Poor quality control.
I just took delivery of a Schwinn Active 10. While it is at the low end of the price scale for exercise bikes, initial impressions are not good regarding Schwinns quality control. Upon unboxing I immediately noticed that the main cover has an area on top, between the two upright tubes, where the paint is flaking off. I suspect that there was some grease on the plastic that prevented the silver paint from adhering properly. I decided that didn't warrant sending it back, so I continued the assembly only to find that the bike made a scraping noise once per revolution when being ridden. I decided to investigate rather than immediately sending it back and after removing the covers (easy after prying out the back inserts that surround the crank) found that the main crank gear is bent and rubs against the handlebar upright tube. A small amount of brute force to reshape it, and a slight loosing of the main bearing, and I now have a quiet bike. Operationally, the bike has everything I need, so I'll be keeping it as long as nothing else goes wrong. The controls are easy to use and I think that the 8 resistance settings more than enough. If you don't have the QC problems that I had, then this bike is good value for the money. 3/5 (would have been 4/5).

Overall good bike - noisy seat
We bought the bike a couple of months ago. Overall we are pleased with the bike. If you are 6' or over, your knees may hit the handlebars. And the seat...not to comfortable and sqweeks for most of the ride (no matter what size you are and no matter how tight you try to make it, the seat swivels). Except for the seat, the bike is a quiet ride. Now we need to order a new seat that will be comfortable and not noisy as the one that comes with the bike. Overall it is a good bike and exercise is a necessity.

Excellent Exercise Bike
If you desire an exercise bike, please look at this one before you purchase another. I researched all the websites and visited a number of stores to look at bikes. While I couldn't find a Schwinn 140 to see in person, the websites' pictures, reviews and specifications indicated that this bike was quiet, compact, and well-made. When I received the shipment, the product was exactly that. Unlike other exercise bikes I have used, this one is absolutely quiet -- no sound at all. Quality is evident. And it looks so good, I put it in my family room. One of the small wheels was broken in shipment, but a call to Schwinn (Nautilus) got me a replacement part quickly. Excellent purchase through Amazon!

Great bike for the price
We bought this bike because it doesn't take up a lot of floor space, my husband needs an exercise bike to recover from hip surgery and I want to get in shape and wanted an alternative to using our treadmill.
The package arrived on schedule and I noticed a little damage on the box. After reading other reviews about shipping damage I expected this since it is a very heavy package (about 85-90lbs?), and I expected damage to the front stabilizer bar end caps like the other buyers stated. Before unpacking anything else, I looked at the front stabilizer bar. Indeed, one of the end caps with a transport wheel was broken into 7 pieces, although it was still attached and able to support the bike and allowed for moving it on the transport wheels. Instead of returning the entire package, knowing I might get another bike shipped out with the same kind of damage I went to the bike's website [...]. Although I waited 20 minutes to speak to a customer service rep she informed me that it was under warranty and they would replace any damaged parts under warranty no charge or shipping cost to me. I just had to email/fax a copy of my Amazon receipt and then they would process the order. It took about 12 days including weekends but I got the part I needed.
After that was taken care of I unpacked all the other pieces and put the bike together in about 1 hour. It would have taken less but I had a 3 year old "helping" me. It went together easy, not much to it, directions were simple.
There are lots of adjustments to make to fit the rider. I am 5'5" and my husband is 5'10" and we can both ride comfortably. My husband is an avid mountain biker and understands bike fit to one's body and he likes the way the bike can accomodate both of us. Adjusted properly the bike can fit the rider while in the proper biking position to avoid sore knees, sore lower back, etc. My back got tired the first time I rode but my husband said the seat was too far back and I was reaching too much. So I moved it up and voila, no more discomfort. We were concerned about sharing a bike that would be comfortable for us both but this bike works great and we are happy with the freedom of adjustments.
The bike doesn't make a single noise while riding, it doesn't make a single sound. I mean none. However, the seat creaks a bit from whatever material it is made from. It is very smooth and quiet to pedal. The computer could be nicer but works for what is intended. It's a bit hard to see the screen if its tilted too much but that can be adjusted too. The seat is ok comfy but I'm not used to riding. The biggest thing is to get the adjustment right for maximum comfort in my case. I could always switch out the seat.
Overall we are very happy with this purchase. I would recommend this bike. I originally wanted a recumbant bike but they are $$$ and take up more floor space. After using this one for about 2 weeks, I realize my core gets more of a workout anyway and it really is comfortable for both of us to ride. We really like the appearance and quality.

Questions & Answers
Question : exercise bikes?
I go to the gym and use the bike/gliders. they say your distance, heart rate, and some more stuff. it also tells me how many calories i've burned. how accurate are they with calorie burning? because according to the machine I burn about 350 each session, and I use it twice, so 700 calories.
Answer:
Everybody's body is different. Don't gauge your performance by what the numbers tell you. Instead, judge your workout by how you feel at the end of it.Most machines calculate calories burned directly from distance traveled, which isn't very accurate.
|
Question : How effective are exercise bikes?
I'm toying with the idea of buying myself an exercise bike. My sister has one, says she burns about 1,000 calories a day.I'm leaning more towards a recumbent bike, preferably the ProForm SR30. I'm figuring a session in the morning, then one after work, plus a bunch of different crunch methods to top things off. Of course, my real problem will be to stay motivated, which is always the hardest part for me.
Answer:
They're very effective for the two or three weeks that people actually use them. Then they sit unused, day after day, in the den or rec-room, silently mocking you with their presence.
|
Question : What are the advantages of exercise bikes?
i need advice on how much time per day we should spare for home exercise bike and what habits should we develop to obtain good health results?
Answer:
try to get out of breath and get a sweat on. a couple of half hour stints if you can manage. eat healthily. drink plenty of fluids. and with your bike you have all the perks of cycling without the fear of getting knocked off by some half wit. enjoy and happy exercisingremember always check with your gp before starting any exercise regime
|
Question : How much energy is wasted when using Exercise Bikes?
How much wasted energy is given off at which rpm when using a exercise bike.how much energy is the bike giving off, that is wasted at different rpms
Answer:
I waste more energy taking them up the tip than my wife does riding them!;)

Question : What's the difference between the two exercise bikes at the gym?
Hi,You know how at the gym, they have one exercise bike that's higher up, and more vertical, and one that's lower and horizontal? What's the difference between the two? Such as benefits, and working the different muscles...?Thanks!
Answer:
one is an upright the other is a recumbent bike. They both do pretty much the same thing, but some of us find the recumbent bike more comfortable.

Question : Do exercise bikes work well to lose weight?
I think it would be good to get an exercise bike so when I am just sitting here watching TV I can get exercise! Winter is pretty much here and I wanted to start running but it is way too cold and I know I could never do it! I just want to know if it's worth buying one? Would I lose weight if I used it an hour every other day?? Are they worth spending $500 on?
Answer:
Yes, they work if you use them. If the $500 version has some features that allow you to program terrain, with various sized hills and flats, etc., that might help make it more interesting to ride. Otherwise, $500 is a little steep for a simple exercise bike that has only a manual resistance control. It takes weeks for the results to begin to show (well, unless you ride about 50 miles a day, that is), but with steady use, you'll burn some calories, but more importantly, you'll raise your metabolism on the average so that you'll begin to notice a reduction in your appetite (initially, exercise stimulates appetite, so be careful in the beginning) and eventually, a reduction in your weight. Good luck!

Question : How effective are exercise bikes in achieving weight loss?
I have just aquired an exercise bicycle from a friend of mine who was moving that didn't wish to take it with her. When I go to the gym (rarely) I usually use the elliptical machine, but since I have this bike now, I would much rather stay at home and workout. My question is for those of you who ride exercise bikes, is it really just as effective as other machines at weight loss, or will I have to ride at longer intervals to achieve any type of results? For the record, I'm 26 yrs old, 5'6 and weigh 130lbs, trying to get down to 120lbs, or at least stay in that range.
Answer:
stationary bikes are awesome for weight loss. Ever hear of spinning? That burngs nearly 800-1200 calories an hour. And you can do it now in your own home. Look up on google some spinning tips, and you'll be on your way to slimming down fast!! I have heard that bikes are the best way to lose weight..you're working out your abs, thighs, calves, butt. Do some arm movements while you're riding, and you'll slim down in no time.

Question : Exercise bikes?
Can exercise bikes tone your stomach up aswell as your legs? (even just a little bit, if i stand up and pedal.)How long should I cycle on it a day?How many calories should I burn with it?What does "odo" mean, it says it on the little screen but I have no clue what it means?Thanksxx
Answer:
The stomach gets some work on a road bike because you move around more. Not much on an exercise bike. If you stand up that is good, but probably won't be that effective. Do some ab exercises afterwords.Any time on your exercise bike is good. 10-12 minutes helps. 20-30 minutes provides a nice rate of improvement. Longer than that is boring and takes disipline. The calories burned depends on your lean body size, intensity, and duration of the bike ride. If you bike vigorously for 20-30 minutes you are probably burning something like 200 calories.Odo is short for odometer. That measures distance.
